There was Aristophanes’ Androgyny, Plato’s anecdote on the origins of love and mankind. The story recounts the primordial androgyny, mythical creatures with four arms, four legs and two heads. They epitomized completeness and were able to do almost anything. However, their pride in their abilities angered the gods and caused Zeus to cut them. Separated in two, they were destined to drift alone, empty and incomplete, longing for their former halves. For Plato, the androgyny is the symbol of wholeness, and the pursuit of it, is what love is.

Running because I CAN!

I made my first official jog outdoors tonight. What was so surprising about it was that I enjoyed it. However, initially it was still painful just because my lungs and my entire body was not used to running for that long. But it definitely felt exhilarating running around the track and just jog off my troubles for that hour. It also helped to have a good company too though. :)

I'm hoping I can do this jogging outdoors once a week. I'll have to make sure I bring my iPod if I go alone. Running around the track without music would be a little challenging without music.

I'm going to attempt this jogging challenge. My goal in the future is to do a marathon. I hope I can do that. :D

Reflection On A Trip To Cuba

I just came back from a wonderful trip in Cuba. Lots of experiences, laughter and pictures to look back on. It's a beautiful country to visit and experience even just once.

What I brought back from the trip (aside for the souvenirs) is the realization how damned lucky my friends and I are to live in a country that gives us the freedom to be happy citizens. We have the rights and freedom of speech and we are taken cared of by the government in many ways.

We deserve it and I wish everyone else in the world can have that luxury too...

The interesting thing about it is that I bought one that you can stick onto your wall. They're these vinyl stickers that come pre-cut with words or designs in different shapes, sizes and colours. Goals Rather Than Resolutions

First of all I wish you a Happy New Year!!!

A friend of mine asked a group of my friends, including myself, of what our "goals" are rather than calling it "resolutions". It's more positive and seems more attainable with the change of a word.

So as I pondered some more of what goals I have for myself, and here some of them:

• Be more open and honest (learned that tonight in the biggest way possible...heh)
• Be more responsible with money and save it
  
• Go on a trip or two
• Lose weight (at least the weight I gained thanks to Teacher's College)
• Find a full-time teaching job
  

Day one of 2009 has been interesting and we shall see what the remaining 364 days of the year will have in stock for me...

I Blame It On The Rain!

So this weekend was supposed to be about culture and purchasing some pirated DVD's. But none of that turned out how I had pictured it in my head. Thanks to the rain, I didn't get to drive my car to Toronto because I chickened out. Instead D drove and thank goodness for that!

I didn't get to see the newly renovated AGO nor did I get to purchase movies. The only thing that worked out were spending time with my UTM friend, seeing a free magic show (awesome!) and a UFC fight which I didn't anticipate to happen, but it did.

Also, I forgot to mention that I did donate blood for the first time in my life just this past Wednesday. I went with D because it's something he had done before. And of course, it's a for a good cause and I should really do more for this planet before I die. Initially I was nervous about it because of what my mother had warned me with. Basically, one of her co-workers went to donate blood and when she came back for work she fainted. But thankfully, everything went smoothly with my donation process. I got to relax on a huge lazy-boy chair, drank orange juice and ate a stale cookie. Unfortunately for D this was his idea to go and I just wanted to tag along to experience it. He was more excited about it than I was, but to his disappointment he was denied to donate his own blood. Only because there is a rule to donating blood, and it's that if you have left the North American soil you cannot donate for at least 12 months. D went back to India last December, hence being denied to donate blood until January 2009. The oddest part of that whole experience was when the nurse made me hold the bag of blood I donated. It was still warm and that was mainly what creeped me out. This may indeed be something I will do annually from now on. I also cannot wait to find out what my blood type is when I received my blood donor card from the mail.

This whole week has been odd but in a good way...

The Rebirth of the AGO

That's right, after three-long years of reconstruction, the day has finally arrived for the rebirth of the AGO. Today at 4 p.m. is the official public opening and will be open for free admissions for the remaining weekend.

The large window facade are one of the key design features that are architecturally unique designed by Frank Gehry.

Some things that I'm excited to see are the large window facade facing the street where the experience with art is created with the dynamic relationship with the street. When pedestrians are walking by the gallery they can see the people inside viewing the artworks. Simultaneously, the gallery viewers can see the pedestrians watching them. Frank Gehry definitely created the civic space that artists would be proud to share with the public.

My inner art-nerdiness is jumping for joy! Hahaha...

An Instant of Frozen Time

This whole weekend I was in the process of rearranging my room (it's a perpetual task) and cleaning it out as well. I stumbled upon my box of cards and letters from friends and loved ones. Among that pile I found a sealed envelope of written goals and thoughts I made 8 years ago. It's one of those time capsule questionnaires that came with my school agenda. When I wrote on that envelope I thought it would be interesting to see what I will become in 8 years.

It says I wrote it on January 19, 2000 and will open it on December 10, 2008. In about one month I will find out who I wanted to become and what I have attained so far...

What's The Solution? Puppies!

I don't know about you, but I definitely see this as a great solution to our economic crisis. ^__^

15 Years!!!

I forgot to mention yesterday that it was 15 years ago that my family arrived to Canada. Wow...time does fly by.

It has been great living here in Canada, minus the cold and harsh winter weather. My awkward years were developed in this country. I sometimes wonder how my life and my family's life would have been different if we did stay back in the Philippines.

I know one thing's for sure, my weight would have been less heavy. Haha...

How to Determine If He's A Douchebag

I just stumbled upon this site called Hot Chicks with Douchebags. It's rather comical and pathetic to see all these beautiful and possibly not so intelligent girls with these...well, douchebags.

Seriously?! WHO finds this sexy in any form?!? And aren't women supposed to be showing their cleavages? I mean, I am not one who shows a lot of skin but I do the occasional modest cleavage show but that's how far I would go. But this douche is showing his massive man boobs! I appreciate that he's returning the favour but there's something disturbing about it as well. It's not remotely sexy or attractive. I just don't get people's taste sometimes. Some guys get it right and some just misses the target.

1-2-3 and 5-6-7

There's nothing more exhilerating than dancing. Well, there are other things I can think of but dancing is on top of my list.

As I've mentioned before I am taking private dance lessons from an instructor. In two sessions we have covered Salsa and he just introduced the Cha-cha tonight. My mom walked in at the end where we were just reviewing all of the steps of the Cha-cha. She got really excited and asked us to perform for her. I forgot how scary it is to perform in front of my mom. Eek. After a few slip-ups from being nervous I did my best to show her what I have learned so far. She nonetheless was impressed and signed up for her own lessons. We'll be going back this Friday for her first lesson and my third lesson. I am super excited because I will no longer be moping and hoping at weddings because I will know how to do ballroom and latin dances. But of course, practice makes perfect, right? And it's a pretty darn good way to lose some weight! I can only imagine what the Dancing with the Stars contestants had to go through. But they sure made it look fun! :D

Things are coming up Milhouse!

I finally received my employee number from my school board. I am officially employed! Now the waiting game begins...*crosses fingers for a teacher(s) to call in sick*

I have a free dance lesson from this company called Blue Heel Dance Studio in a couple of hours. They offer a free 30 mins. dance lesson from the dance instructor. I'm excited because I've been looking for a nice place that offers good dancing lessons. I hope it won't be too pricey as well. My mom will be joining me after her work just to watch. She's the one that's really been searching for a place but I'm doing this lesson on behalf of her just to see if it's worth going to. We shall see!
