Praise Song For The Day
Elizabeth Alexander read a poem she had composed for Barack Obama and his Inauguration Day today. It's called 'Praise Song For The Day'.
Each day we go about our business, walking past each other, catching each others’ eyes or not, about to speak or speaking. All about us is noise. All about us is noise and bramble, thorn and din, each one of our ancestors on our tongues. Someone is stitching up a hem, darning a hole in a uniform, patching a tire, repairing the things in need of repair.
Someone is trying to make music somewhere with a pair of wooden spoons on an oil drum with cello, boom box, harmonica, voice.
A woman and her son wait for the bus.
ALEXANDER: A farmer consider the changing sky; A teacher says, “Take out your pencils. Begin.”
We encounter each other in words, Words spiny or smooth, whispered or declaimed; Words to consider, reconsider.
We cross dirt roads and highways that mark the will of someone and then others who said, “I need to see what’s on the other side; I know there’s something better down the road.”
We need to find a place where we are safe; We walk into that which we cannot yet see.
Say it plain, that many have died for this day. Sing the names of the dead who brought us here, who laid the train tracks, raised the bridges, picked the cotton and the lettuce, built brick by brick the glittering edifices they would then keep clean and work inside of.
Praise song for struggle; praise song for the day. Praise song for every hand-lettered sign; The figuring it out at kitchen tables.
Some live by “Love thy neighbor as thy self.”
Others by first do no harm, or take no more than you need.
What if the mightiest word is love, love beyond marital, filial, national. Love that casts a widening pool of light. Love with no need to preempt grievance.
In today’s sharp sparkle, this winter air, anything can be made, any sentence begun.
On the brink, on the brim, on the cusp -- praise song for walking forward in that light.

Reflection of You
To his surprise, he heard the voice repeating, somewhere in the mountain, “AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!” Curious, he yelled: “Who are you?” He received the answer: “Who are you?”
Angered at the response, he screamed: “Coward!” He receives the answer: “Coward!”
He looked to his father and asked:
“What’s going on?” The father smiled and said: “My son, pay attention.”
And then he screamed to the mountain:
“I admire you!” The voice answered:
“I admire you!” Again the man screamed: “You are a champion!”
The voice answered: “You are a champion!”
The boy was surprised, but did not understand.
Then the father explained:
“People call this “ECHO”,but really this is LIFE. It gives you back everything you say or do.
Our life is simply a reflection of our actions. If you want more love in the world, create more love in your heart. If you want more competence in your team, improve your competence.
This relationship applies to everything, in all aspects of life; Life will give you back everything you have given to it.”
LIFE IS NOT A COINCIDENCE......IT’S A REFLECTION OF YOU!

Young Love
These youngsters are not afraid to express their love for each other.
But do they really know what love is?

What's In The Future?
I wasn't graceful nor eloquent but it was a relief
to get my thoughts out.
It was both good and bad.
But good for the most part...

Tips On Developing Crushes On Friends
- Just tell your friend you like them early on. This will lessen the complications girls tend to create in their heads.
- Don't post anything on blogs of your thoughts because this will haunt you on your wedding day or even until death.
- Don't tell your crush you have a blog.
- Develop crushes OUTSIDE of your circle of friends. In this case, you can avoid getting mocked by your own crush himself because you actually liked him. lol
- DON'T complicate things with physical activities with your crush, especially when he doesn't reciprocate those feelings you'd hoped for. Unless you are brave enough to delve into a 'friends with benefits' arrangements. This never ends well so make sure YOU KNOW what you're getting yourself into.
I'm moving on now and looking for other prospects OUTSIDE of my circle of friends.
If you have any other thoughts or stories I would love to hear them.

Goals Rather Than Resolutions
So as I pondered some more of what goals I have for myself, and here some of them:
- Be more open and honest (learned that tonight in the biggest way possible...heh)
- Be more responsible with money and save it
- Go on a trip or two
- Lose weight (at least the weight I gained thanks to Teacher's College)
- Find a full-time teaching job
